Big Dreams and the Endless Country
After finishing an album called ‘Photography’ earlier this year I wasnt really sure what direction to take in terms of the next one. Most of you will have no idea what I’m talking about so I suppose a little background is necessary.
For the last few years I have been writing music mostly for myself with the aim of producing one focused album a year. When I say ‘album’ I really mean a collection of demos which, if I could ever find the time/money/personnel, I would record into a full album. At the same time I make demos of other songs which dont fit the mood of the album. Last years effort, Photography, for me was a real achievement, I can still go back, listen and enjoy them now; which is the whole point really. The tracks were:

Most of them can be found on myspace (www.myspace.com/andrewmcdonaldmusic) but I might try and upload some choice selections - I was even thinking of distributing the whole thing via podcast but that would require some people who would actually listen to it.
Which brings me to The Endless Country - while Photography had a few songs which played on classical guitar ideas (like the title track and fall of rome), I really wanted to go further with that. I’m not a hugely accomplished classical guitarist but I have found that a lot of the method has come through. So with Endless Country most of the songs have that influence. The title comes from reading a lot of Southern Gothic novels about the end of the ‘West’ - I think we’re in the same kind of period now; on the edge of a new attitude. The whole album is going to be split up by 3 songs on piano pieces. Some working titles are:
